Kohar Minassian

Cyanotype and Multimedia Artist

Information

  • Kohar grew up in the Golden State and currently lives at the foot of Mount Beacon with her husband and Blue Heeler puppy. She believes in artmaking as a tool for advocacy and an act of resistance. Kohar is a video storyteller, and her personal practice combines analog photography and cyanotypes/sun printing in an effort to create in direct connection with the environment.

  • My cyanotypes, developed under the gaze of the sun, represent more than a method; they are a nod to our essential connection with the elemental forces of nature. By harnessing the power of sunlight to bring forth the images, I delve into the intricate tapestry of the Armenian diasporic experience, unraveling the invisible threads that bind our collective history. This process is a deliberate dance between analog and digital creation, a reflection of the complexities inherent in translating our diasporic narrative through generations.
