Painting with Dead Things: A Hands-On, Natural Dye and Paint Workshop

  • Super Secret Projects 484 Main Street Beacon, NY, 12508 United States (map)

Discover the art of making inks and paints from natural organic materials. From the earliest cave paintings to medieval manuscripts, artists have long relied on pigments derived from plants, minerals, and animals. In this session, we’ll revive these historical techniques and experiment with organic color-making.

Elizabeth Mihaltse Lindy will demonstrate how to create inks and paints using natural sources such as flowers, fruits, and earth pigments. We’ll also review pigment binders like gum arabic for watercolor, beeswax for encaustic, rabbit skin glue for distemper and egg for tempera.

This workshop is perfect for artists and creative enthusiasts alike—No prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment! Materials are included. Space is limited—reserve your spot!
